Once upon a time, I was a perfect parent. Then, I had children.
The Best of Times – The Worst of Times
Parenting is one of the most amazing experiences on earth.
There are moments when you’ve never felt such love, joy, and connection to another human being – it’s sheer bliss.
Yet, you’re surprised by your impatience and lack of ability to handle the day-to-day tasks. It can be like a blow to the back of the head – or the heart – when the relationship takes an unexpected turn.
Nothing… can test your patience – or be more humbling – than parenting.
I get it. I’ve been there.
I have two children of my own, and even with a master’s degree and lots of counseling experience, I still wake up to some very challenging days.
However, if we allow it, parenting can help us become more well-rounded – better people.
Our children can teach us areas where we can improve our communication and our willingness to learn.
Just as importantly, our children can also learn to be open to growth and communicate their feelings and needs.
Then, they become a source of happiness, pride, joy, and connection.
Ask yourself one question: are you open?
Open to learning discipline and communication methods that may differ a little from the ones you grew up with – so you can enjoy more positive relationships?
Nobody’s perfect. No parent. No child.
But through open communication, you can make things better!
There is no perfect parent. There are only great parents who do their best to be loving role models to their children and support their emotional and physical growth.
And sometimes, great mentors who help them along the way.
I can help.
